Farmer Mac: Cautious Optimism on the Farm Economy

South America’s weather problems have given U.S. farmers a reason to show more enthusiasm about prices.

This price rally In grains is “beneficial from a cash flow perspective” to Jackson Takach, economist with Farmer Mac.

“Excellent for the economy, excellent for the farm economy,” he told AgDay host Clinton Griffiths.

While there’s some positive news coming from the grain markets, there’s also a big unknown that could cause major headwinds ahead: trade.

“Cautious optimism tends to be one of the things that is common amongst the farming community,” he said. “Cautious optimism is where people want to be.”
